PunchOut2Go's Journey to the Salesforce AppExchange

PunchOut2Go graduated from the exclusive Salesforce Accelerate program with 9 other technology companies, all launching new apps on the Salesforce AppExchange.

SFAGrad.pngIn early 2019, PunchOut2Go aligned with the B2B Commerce Cloud team at Salesforce to begin discussions around bringing a PunchOut2Go connector app to market. The app would extend the platform’s capabilities to offer PunchOut catalog purchasing and purchase order automation for B2B buyers using any procurement system. As a result of this strategic alignment, in the fall of 2019, Salesforce invited PunchOut2Go to apply for their Salesforce Accelerate BUILD program, which is designed to provide the insights and support companies need to strategically align with Salesforce and grow in the AppExchange. Salesforce selects companies from idea to app, fast-tracking their journey to AppExchange. 

With more than 5,000 total apps, 80,000 peer reviews, and 6.5 million installs by Salesforce customers, the Salesforce AppExchange has become the world’s leading cloud enterprise marketplace and has built its own economy. According to an IDC whitepaper, Salesforce and their extended ecosystem will generate 3.3 million jobs and $859 billion in new business revenue by 2022.

This means several hundred apps are currently in development for the AppExchange by hundreds of different companies, and Salesforce only accepts 5 to 10 applicants into the Salesforce Accelerate program each year. In the Fall of 2019, PunchOut2Go was honored to be selected, and to participate in the program, to accelerate bringing the PunchOut2Go for Salesforce B2B Commerce Cloud connector to market. The other companies accepted into the program’s 7th cohort were AiBUY, dotin, namecoach, PartnerTap, ProforMap, Sercante, Tocca, Tohoom, and Vendavo.

The Program

The three-month program consisted of weekly group meetings and individual sessions with assigned Salesforce mentors that provided support and insight into the process of getting onto the AppExchange, successful go-to-market strategies for our applications, and information on leveraging the Salesforce team to generate more business. The content didn’t stop there though, as Salesforce wanted to share other aspects of their business journey that have contributed to their success, with additional lectures on corporate/social responsibility, diversity and inclusion, and how they dealt with scaling up quickly to meet demand.

Salesforce Accelerate also featured 4 intensive onsite meetings that were hyper-focused on each company’s journey to going live on the AppExchange. Each onsite was a full 3-day event where companies could collaborate, hear lectures from industry experts, and also gain access to Salesforce leadership, receiving vital answers and advice around building a successful partnership with Salesforce. 

PunchOut2Go had the opportunity to send different leaders to attend the onsites to receive the most relevant content and support. PunchOut2Go’s Chief Technology Officer, Shawn McKnight, attended early on and communicated regularly with the Salesforce team as our connector went through security review. Kari Cress, PunchOut2Go’s VP of Marketing and Partner Success, attended later events to help solidify our strategic partnership and go-to-market strategy.

The final onsite ended with a graduation event, where Salesforce gathered their leaders, partners, investors, and customers to hear each company present on what they do, and the value our apps provide for Salesforce and Salesforce customers.
